Two major TIF districts previously approved by the Rapid City Council are voided on account of administrative error.
The Rapid City Journal first reported the sports complex and Libertyland theme park districts will have to go back through the public comment and voting process.
State law mandates any TIF, or tax increment finance district, be published in the local newspaper of record at least 10 days before the planning commission votes on the matter.
Ultimately, the wrong documents were submitted to the Rapid City Journal. While notices were indeed published, the text was about a different TIF proposal.
Voting on these districts will take place at the Planning Committee Aug. 21, the Legal and Finance Committee on Aug. 27, before facing a Sept. 2 City Council vote.
