Sanford Health is acquiring the locally-owned pharmacy chain Lewis Drug. Leaders say it’s the next step of a quarter-century-long partnership.
Lewis Drug has 60 locations throughout South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. Those locations will continue under the Lewis Drug brand, but all current pharmacists and employees will become employees of Sanford Health.
Lewis Drug and Sanford Health have a partnership that spans over 25 years. This includes co-locations of Sanford Clinics and Lewis Pharmacies as well as Sanford co-owning over 40 locations in rural communities .
Sanford CEO and President Bill Gassen referred to the acquisition as quote “the natural next step” in the relationship with Lewis.
Lewis Drug CEO Mark Griffin echoed by saying, “Our long-term relationship with Sanford Health laid the groundwork for the joint decision to bring Lewis Drug fully into the integrated Sanford Health system.”
Officials with Sanford added there will be no changes to the leadership team at Lewis Drug when the partnership is finalized later this fall.
