A pair of South Dakota newspapers have a new regional owner.

Fargo-based Forum Communication this week purchased seven newspapers across the Upper Midwest. Among them – the Madison Daily Leader and the Pierre Capital Journal.

The official transition date is Feb. 1.

Forum already owns several news media organizations in the state, including the Mitchell Republic, NewsCenter1 in Rapid City and Sioux Falls Live.

This comes amid recent instability among South Dakota newspaper ownership. Last August, News Media Corporation announced the closure of four newspapers in the state — though many of those have since found new ownership.
