July Gambling Numbers Up In Deadwood

2019 and 2020 comparison of total gambling in Deadwood.

Deadwood casinos had another big month in July, when people gambled almost $129 million in the city.

That’s up 9 percent compared to the same month last year.

The July numbers were helped by good attendance at the annual Days of '76 celebration, which drew Gov. Kristi Noem to town this year.

"Deadwood gaming continues to have a steady return of gaming customers after the COVID-19 crisis,” said Mike Rodman, executive director of the Deadwood Gaming Association. "We were able to benefit as a destination that people felt safe to visit."

July was the second straight month of higher gambling numbers for Deadwood. But it came after a shutdown in April because of the coronavirus.

For the year, gambling remains 12 percent behind 2019 numbers.
