A global company says it will build a new food-production plant with 600 workers in Sioux Falls.
CJ Foods, part of South Korean company CJ CheilJedang, says the plant will produce Asian-style meals, sides, snacks, and appetizers. CJ Foods will sell and distribute the food with its U.S. affiliate, the Schwan’s Company.
The project will break ground in the spring and take several years to become fully operational. The facility will cover 700,000 square feet and cost “several hundred million dollars” to build, the company says.
The plant will be in Foundation Park, near the I-90 and I-29 intersection in northwest Sioux Falls. That's the same industrial park where Amazon is building a fulfillment center that will employ 1,000 people.
CJ Foods says it's working closely with state and local officials. A spokesman for South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem says an incentive package for the company is still being finalized.
