Toddlers are full-body learners. At this age, they are in the so-called “random-scribbling” stage, simply enjoying the act of drawing, feeling the movement of their arm and the crayon. They may not even look at the page as they make their mark. During this stage, 2-year-olds slowly become aware of the result of their scribbles, and they may begin to give their scribbles names or labels, but don’t worry if they don’t!
Provide your toddler with a box of chubby crayons and lots of scratch paper and let the scribbling begin! Toddlers are doing important work — building their grip muscles and their hand-eye coordination — which lays the foundation for their future artistic endeavors and writing.
