Black Hills Community continues its 56th Season with the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof, with book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of his tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of preserving tradition during changing times leaves audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness.
Fiddler on the Roof is directed by Kristol McKie, whose previous directing credits for BHCT include Sister Act and Assistant Directing Shrek. Mckie says of the show, “Fiddler on the Roof will charm the audience with its wit, heart and iconic music. Even if you have never seen it before, you will be singing along to the many familiar songs and relating to the parallels of this heartwarming story. This is a must see event in our community!” The artistic team also includes Assistant Director Lorien Petersen, Music Director Meredith Meersman and Choreographer Holly Knox. The cast of local actors features Justin Speck at Tevye, Michelle Martinson as Golde, Olivia Perli as Tzeitel, Allie Byrd as Hodel, Caroline Haugo as Chava, Hollen Rice as Shprintze, Nora Brady as Bielke, Michael Lytle as Motel, Matthew Vidal as Perchik, Tyson Colgan as Fyedka, Jason Knox as Lazar Wolf, Peggy Vidal as Yente, Joey Lore as Constable, David L’Esperance as Rabbi, Debbie Minter as Grandma Tzeitel, Brittany Poto as Fruma Sarah and Poppy Stevens as The Fiddler. Playing other key members of the village of Anatevka are Tom Powers, James Randle, Sam Powers, Benjamin Van Cleave, Chris Braddy, Holly Knox, and Dakota Morgan. The cast is rounded out by dancers Oleksandr Kulias, Henry Olivier, Sara Olivier and Elora Randle and an ensemble featuring Jon Bader, Kassi Blue-Scates, Liam Blue-Scates, Brianna Bohling, Elliot Braddy, Tessa Braddy, Stephanie Eliason, Doris Fritts, George King, Sarah King, Shiloh King, Parker Knox, Gretchen Lindenberg, and Lindsay Plunkett.
