700 patients' private information stolen in Avera data breach

Jackie Hendry

Avera says a data breach allowed someone to obtain the private information of about 700 patients.

The information includes names, Social Security numbers and medical codes. It also includes mail and email addresses, phone numbers and birth dates. The affected patients received care at Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center in Sioux Falls.

MCG Health is the vendor that informed Avera about the breach. MCG is sending notices to affected patients. The notices advise people to check their credit reports and account information, and report suspicious activity.

More information is online at mcg.com.
