Pennington County State's Attorney Lara Roetzel said she’s decided how to proceed with a homicide case involving the death of a transgender Native American woman.

However, she will not make that decision public until she wraps up a current court case in six weeks.

"I am in a six-week murder trial for the next six weeks however, so no formal announcement will happen until after that," Roetzel said in an email.

Roetzel gave herself a deadline of Sept. 18 to determine whether to move forward with charges.

Acey Morrison was fatally shot in the home of a man who is claiming self-defense.

Recent updates to state law make it harder for prosecutors to charge defendants who claim self-defense. The state’s stand your ground laws are like those in Florida.

State’s Attorney Roetzel’s said she will announce her decision at the end of October.
