Authorities arrested two men who they say stole mail from hundreds of Watertown homes.

Police identified the suspects as Thomas Breese, 27, and Jarid Armstrong, 24, both of Watertown.

Breese and Armstrong took mail and packages from mailboxes around Lake Kampeska last week, according to the Watertown Police Department. Officers tracked them down Friday night after receiving tips from members of the community.

Police say the suspects opened Christmas cards, letters, and other mail then threw it away in ditches. Officers have recovered hundreds of pieces of discarded mail and are working to return them to their owners.

Both men face petty theft charges. Authorities said additional state and federal charges are possible.
