A body was discovered in a culvert off Lacrosse Street in Rapid City this week.

Brendyn Medina is the Rapid City Police Department’s public information officer. He said the discovery was first called in by a public works crew.

“We were able to go down there and confirm it was in fact human remains, and then worked out a plan with our friends at the fire department to actually recover the body," Medina said. "At this point, it is being investigated as an unattended death, and an autopsy will be scheduled in the investigation to help us figure out the circumstances surrounding the individual’s death.”

Some details, like precisely how long the body had been in the culvert, are unclear. Investigators have not ruled out foul play.
