Pierre man receives sentence for allegedly assaulting correctional officers

A Pierre man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for allegedly assaulting and threatening correctional officers.

Isaiah Rouse was convicted on three counts of assaulting an officer and one count of threatening an officer, according to South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley.

These attacks occurred in two separate incidents in early 2023 at the Hughes County Jail.

“This is another example of the dangers our law enforcement officers and correctional officers face on a daily basis,” Jackley said. “I appreciate the work of law enforcement and prosecutors in bringing justice to this case.”

Ryan is the local host of "Morning Edition". Originally from Iowa, he first came to the Black Hills to study at SD Mines. After graduating in 2019, he was an educator in Arizona and North Dakota before returning to the Black Hills.
