South Dakota will receive $3.6 million in a settlement with Johnson & Johnson, according to the attorney general’s office.
It’s part of a $700 million agreement with the company to resolve deceptive marketing allegations.
Johnson & Johnson is accused of misleading consumers in ads about the safety and purity of some of its talc powder products. As part of the lawsuit, the company has agreed to stop the manufacture and sale of these products in the U.S.
The attorney general’s office said the state’s share of the settlement will go to its Consumer Protection Division for ongoing consumer protection investigations, enforcement and education.
Attorney General Marty Jackley was one of 43 state attorneys general involved in the lawsuit.
