Sioux Falls residents sentenced for embezzling from tribal organization

Two Sioux Falls residents were sentenced after admitting to embezzling from a tribal organization in South Dakota.

46-year-old April Ferguson is sentenced to five months in a federal prison. 41-year-old Steven Casto is sentenced to 2 years of probation.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Dakota, Ferguson was an elected chairperson of the Ideal Lakota Community. While dating Casto, the two embezzled and stole money from the community’s bank account.

Jackson Dircks is a Freeburg, Illinois, native. He is pursuing a degree in English, Journalism and Secondary Education at Augustana University and planning to graduate in May 2025. He plans to pursue a career in sports journalism.
