Two Sioux Falls residents are arrested in connection to the accidental death of a juvenile.

Police said a group of teenagers were hanging out and “messing around” with a handgun. A teenager was shot and died in a hospital several hours later.

The initial call reported the incident as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Upon further investigation, Lt. Aaron Nyberg said that was not the case.

“During the investigation of the shooting, detectives discovered that there had been witnesses that had been told to leave the scene prior to police arrival. Detectives were able to track down these witnesses and, through interviews and preliminary investigation of the scene and the body, it’s determined that this gunshot wound was not self-inflicted,” Nyberg said.

As a result, 33-year-old Savannah Randle is charged with child abuse, accessory to manslaughter and false reporting.

The other individual charged was a juvenile. so details aren’t being released.

Police said the handgun was stolen.
