A Martin woman is sentenced to federal prison time for stealing from a tribal organization.
Madonna Peterson must spend a year in prison for larceny.
The charge stems from when Peterson was employed for the Wild Horse Butte Community Development Corporation.
The US Attorney’s Office District of South Dakota said between 2014 and 2021, the 59 year old wrote herself checks and submitted fraudulent reimbursement requests. She then used the stolen funds for personal gain.
She is also ordered to pay $150,000 in restitution to the organization.
