State officials say a jury has convicted a man charged in the stabbing death of a teen in Pierre.
Twenty-five-year-old David Shangreax was convicted of second-degree murder by a Hughes County jury Wednesday following a week-long trial, according to Attorney General Marty Jackley.
Investigators say Shangreaux fatally stabbed 17-year-old Evie Maxey at a Pierre apartment on Nov. 30, 2023.
“This was a horrendous crime that warranted this verdict,” said Jackley. “My heart goes out to Evie’s family and thank you to the investigators and prosecutors for their challenging work.”
Shangreaux’s sentencing date has not been set. He faces up to life in prison.
