The suspect in an officer-involved shooting that led to a multi-state manhunt is behind bars.
Thirty-five-year-old Cody Dittman is wanted on charges in both South Dakota and Nebraska, according to Attorney General Marty Jackley’s office.
Tribal police tried arresting him Friday near Pine Ridge for a firearms complaint, but he sped off. Officers tried stopping him using tire spike strips in Fall River County. Authorities say he swerved towards the officers, and one officer opened fire.
Dittman drove across the Nebraska border where he left his car and ran off.
The Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety said he was finally arrested Wednesday following a multi-agency search and investigation.
“Congratulations to the law enforcement officers who were involved in the apprehension of this suspect. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation continues its investigation of the officer-involved shooting that occurred in Fall River County as part of the vehicle pursuit involving this suspect," Jackley said in a statement. "A final report will be issued later."
