A teen is charged with murder following a Rapid City homicide.

Police say officers responded to a shooting Saturday in a north Rapid City neighborhood.

The 33-year-old victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. A 17-year-old was arrested and is charged with first-degree murder.

Police haven’t said what led up to the shooting, but they say the suspect knew the victim and the incident was not random.

Capt. Christian Sigel of the Rapid City Police Department said the identification and arrest of the suspect are a "testament to the dedicated and diligent work of officers and deputies assigned to the case."

"We will not let violent acts like this one become normalized in our community," Sigel said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact Rapid City police.
