The South Dakota DCI is investigating multiple assaults involving inmates at the state penitentiary in Sioux Falls that authorities believe are gang-related.
Attorney General Marty Jackley said the assaults took place Tuesday at different sections of the Jameson Annex.
Five inmates received stab wounds. Three were hospitalized, and the other two were treated at the prison. Several other inmates were injured from assaults involving homemade blunt objects.
“Evidence suggests that the assaults are gang related, and they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Jackley said.
No prison staff were injured.
