This week, the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate tribe is breaking ground on a new Law Enforcement Center. Officials say it connects multiple levels of government.

The 28,000 square foot facility is located adjacent to a 25-bed detention center currently under construction.

The tribe said building the two near each other creates a cohesive justice complex serving the Lake Traverse Reservation.

Tribal Chairman Garrett Renville said the project is going to foster partnerships across state, federal and tribal agencies, and it sets a precedent for tribal communities nationwide.

The groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public at 2 p.m. CT on Wednesday.
