While lawmakers continue debating how best to fund a new state prison, the executive branch is sharing its perspective with the public.
Gov. Larry Rhoden recently established a new page on the official governor’s website dedicated to answering common questions about the plan.
Those questions include ‘how are we getting the $650 million’, will the facility cost more for ongoing operational expenses,’ and ‘will this facility be used to help house illegal immigrant detainees?’
Additionally, the page says the total sunk costs to taxpayers after the state walked away from the originally proposed Lincoln County site will be available in September.
Rhoden has described the current, 140-year-old facility as quote “gothic” and advocated for its replacement since serving as Lt. Governor.
