An Aberdeen woman is facing misdemeanor charges after allegedly threatening a Republican candidate for South Dakota governor.

Shauna King, 69, made her initial appearance in Brown County court on Monday on charges of disorderly conduct and simple assault.

The incident occurred Saturday at the Northern State University football game. Republican candidate for governor and Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden was in attendance.

In a post on social media, Doeden claimed someone approached him from behind and said, “We got Kirk, you’re next.” She was referencing the Charlie Kirk assassination.

The Argus Leader reports court documents reveal King admitted to making a remark to Doeden.

The Aberdeen Police Department confirmed the incident and said they located the individual and arrested her for simple assault.
