South Dakota is two weeks away from the governor's annual budget address. Meanwhile, after a special legislative session, the state is moving forward with a $650 million men's prison project.

A legislative committee studied incarceration and reentry this summer. Governor Larry Rhoden recently launched a new task force to address recidivism.

Jean Hunhoff is a former state senator. Linda Duba is a former state representative.

Both legislators have served on the appropriations committee. They talked with Lori Walsh about how programming for people behind bars is funded and where some of the gaps in services loom.

Lori Walsh is a special correspondent with SDPB and host of the "In the Moment" podcast.
