Jackley unveils pair of bills to be introduced in 2026 legislative session

Attorney General Marty Jackley said he’s introducing a pair of digital safety bills in the upcoming South Dakota legislative session.

One bill addresses investigations into internet crimes against children and human trafficking. Jackley said it grants the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force additional tools in identifying where child pornography is being disseminated.

The other focuses on individuals’ genetic privacy rights. This comes after the state joined 28 others in a lawsuit against a company called 23andMe to stop it from selling personal genetic data without consent.

“As attorney general, I am committed to protecting children from online predators and safeguarding the privacy rights of all South Dakotans,” Jackley said in a statement Monday. “These legislative measures represent another important step toward achieving those goals.”

Jackley said his office intends to introduce 10 bills in total.

The 2026 legislative session begins Jan. 13.
