A Rapid City woman convicted of first-degree murder was sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutors say Pam White Butterfly shot and killed Lenard Brown Eyes at a Rapid City home last February. She was also charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting and injuring Brown Eyes’ brother, Gerard Brown Eyes.
According to a statement from the Pennington County State's Attorney's office, Gerard Brown Eyes addressed the court during the sentencing hearing and spoke about the impact the shootings had on his family. He told the court that White Butterfly’s actions were not the “Lakota Way.”
The Pennington County State’s Attorney says despite his injuries, Lenard Brown Eyes was able to call 911 and identify the shooter.
