During the 2015 legislative session, Governor Dennis Daugaard announced the creation of a Blue Ribbon Task Force on Teachers and Students to explore teacher pay and education funding.
The initial 13 appointees include state lawmakers and members of the executive branch. They're currently holding a series of public meetings across the state to hear concerns from educators, business leaders and the public. After these meetings, the task force will begin work on legislative proposals. The Blue Ribbon Task Force held a forum in Rapid City on Wednesday. Meetings continue later this month in Sioux Falls, Yankton, Watertown, and Aberdeen.
Before the start of Rapid City's forum, co-chairs State Senator Deb Soholt and State Representative Jackelyn Sly discussed the goals of the task force.
