Education Department secretary named next president of Lake Area Technical College

Tiffany Sanderson, secretary of South Dakota’s Department of Education, has been named the next president of Lake Area Technical College.

The Watertown trade school announced the hiring this morning.

Sanderson previously led South Dakota’s technical college system as the Director of Career and Technical Education and has worked to develop the Build Dakota Scholarship program.

Sanderson was hired at a special meeting of the local school board Nov. 23 and will formally assume duties Jan. 1.

Sanderson was unable to be reached for comment but said in a release from LATC that it’s a privilege to be part of the school’s next step.

Sanderson will be the sixth president in LATC’s history, and succeeds the retiring Mike Cartney, who led the school since 2014.
