VERMILLION. (Jan. 9, 2023) – To better serve viewers, South Dakota Public Broadcasting is changing the schedule on SDPB1 to increase general audience programming during the afternoon.
Beginning Monday, Feb. 6, SDPB’s block of PBS KIDS programs will end at 3 p.m. CT, 2 p.m. MT. Shows airing in the late afternoon include a mix of national science, nature, and entertainment programs with local and regional history and public affairs programs. SDPB is also adding an hour of news programming from the BBC leading into PBS NewsHour.
Education is a guiding pillar of public media. Each week, South Dakota Public Broadcasting broadcasts over 200 hours of high-quality PBS KIDS children’s programming.
Research shows more and more families find PBS KIDS programs anytime, anywhere in digital spaces – watching on smart devices and the internet, as well as traditional television. PBS KIDS programs prepare kids for school and lead them to a bright future. As more South Dakotans watch on their own schedule, SDPB is changing its daytime TV schedule to better meet our viewers where they are.
The PBS KIDS service comprises more than twenty-five series that have been developed with the needs of today’s children in mind to help prepare them for success in school and life. Our series focus on fundamental learning goals – such as literacy; science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); relationships, and self-awareness; collaboration; communication; and creativity.
Many viewers are already watching children’s programming free, over-the-air on the dedicated PBS KIDS 24/7, SDPB4 channel, and on the SDPB app and website at SDPB.org/Kids24. PBS KIDS programming is also available on the free PBS KIDS app and at pbskids.org/video.
PBS KIDS and member stations, like SDPB, are dedicated to offering curriculum-based media content designed to meet the needs of today’s kids. Teachers, parents, and caregivers have come to rely on SDPB for quality, commercial-free, non-violent programming. For 70 years, we have met that need by serving the state with education and entertainment.
