It’s a new school year, and principals, deans and teachers are assessing the lay of the land.
University of South Dakota president Shelia Gestring said this is the biggest class in years.
“This year, USD welcomed its largest main campus incoming class since 2018, and notable increases in first-time, full-time students from the state of South Dakota at 7%, and 22% first-time, full-time incoming class from Nebraska," Gestring said.
More bodies mean more issues, from food services to housing in the community.
“Even with all that support, there is much more to do," Gestring said. "We continue to work diligently with our many stakeholders to partner on funding USD’s institutional priorities.”
With population steadily growing in Vermillion, it seems competition for off-campus housing could become a major challenge for the growing university to navigate looking forward.
