Custer State Park's first bison calf of the 2023 season was born amid a snowstorm in early April.

Custer State Park is celebrating the first bison calf born this year.

Park staff found the calf just one day after a major winter storm system dumped nearly two feet of snow across the area.

Bison calves are usually born in late April or early May.

Custer State Park is home to roughly 1,400 bison, according to South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks.
