The Black Hills National Forest is closing seasonal roadways and recreation sites Dec. 15.
Gates get closed this time of year to provide refuge and protection for wildlife and vegetation during the winter months.
Some of the closed roadways will still be open for snowmobile use during the winter. Winter campgrounds can be found here.
Forest officials are asking the public to avoid parking in front of closed gates as to not block in employees working behind the gate. They also remind visitors to plan accordingly for travel, as forest service roadways are not plowed or maintained in winter.
Seasonal sites and roads open back up around mid-May, weather permitting.
