The Black Hills National Forest is looking for public comment on a treatment plan to improve forest health.
The plan involves removing trees and performing prescribed burns across 5,177 acres, all east of Sheridan Lake.
The Black Hills was struck by large hail during a storm last July. Forest service officials said many trees are showing signs of significant damage and are not healthy. These unhealthy trees can promote disease and pine beetle infestation that can spread the surrounding healthy plant life.
