South Dakota high school student leading sustainability push

Wambli Quintana has his sights set on sustainability practices and climate change.

Quintana is a senior at Dupree High School in South Dakota. He is also a 2024 Champion for Change with the Center for Native American Youth at the Aspen Institute.

Quintana is affiliated with the Navajo Nation and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe.

He shared about his current focus of expanding opportunities in sustainable energy and green practices for his community. He also recapped his recent conversation with Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland on the role of Indigenous communities in protecting the environment.

Quintana served on the Cheyenne River Youth Project’s Youth Advisory Council for 2023 and is engaged in the Growing into Wowachineyepi program.
