Storm clouds gather over Sioux Falls in 2022.

This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

Todd Heitkamp, meteorologist in charge at the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, says the only thing the 1996 movie "Twister" got right is that tornados and tornado chasers are real.

He joins "In the Moment" to preview his Science on Screen presentation ahead of the State Theatre's screening of "Twister."

He says to heed tornado warnings and watches and take this weather seriously. Most injuries and deaths are caused by flying debris, so seek shelter indoors and away from windows.

And don't seek shelter under a bridge or in your car.
