The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grants nearly $8 million to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe.

The tribe plans to use the Climate Pollution Reduction grant to install electric vehicle charging stations and buy electric buses and a heavy-duty electric garbage truck.

“The ambitious projects selected will deploy community-driven solutions to fight climate change and protect public health,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “The Tribal and territory leaders selected today will fund innovative projects that improve air quality, deliver cleaner affordable electricity, and create economic and workforce opportunities that can be scaled up and replicated across Tribal lands and U.S. territories.”

“This is a great opportunity for the Rosebud Sioux Tribe,” said Ivan Crow Eagle, Environmental Director of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. “We are so humbled and grateful for the selection of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe's Climate Pollution Reduction Grant application. Words cannot express the selection to provide the Rosebud Sioux Tribe with such a glorifying opportunity to be awarded with a prestigious grant. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe is looking for more ways to provide more Green Energy opportunities and solutions to help with the structures, ecosystems, and the Environment for the people and wildlife of the Rosebud Reservation.”

EPA officials selected 34 of the 110 applications submitted. They estimated that all the awarded projects combined will reduce greenhouse gas pollutions by more than 7 million tons of carbon dioxide by 2050.

The grant is part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America program–equivalent to the carbon dioxide emitted from nearly 1.4 million homes' electricity use for one year.
