USDA awards $5 million to South Dakota Family Forests Association

(File)

The South Dakota Family Forests Association is receiving a $5 million grant from the federal government.

The US Department of Agriculture is awarding the money to eliminate barriers by providing economic support to landowners in their work toward creating resilient forests.

That includes promoting wildlife habitat, protecting water resources and producing timber for local industry.

The grant is providing an 80% cost share for on-the-ground forest resiliency practices.
