Canadian wildfire smoke is descending upon eastern South Dakota, but the National Weather Service says it’s not a major concern.
Aberdeen NWS meteorologist Brian Cromwell said the north-to-south smoke is too high in the atmosphere to merit an air quality advisory at this time.
“This smoke is originating from wildfires up in Canada, and we’re in a pattern right now that is allowing that smoke to move south," Cromwell said. "It looks like it’ll make it across the state. The good news is that most of this smoke is going to stay elevated through Friday, so we won’t get too many air quality issues.”
Messaging about the smoke, and potential air quality advisories, can be found on online NWS resources.
