Debris near a Watertown power substation. The trees were knocked down by a powerful storm that hit in the overnight hours of Aug. 6, 2025.

Another round of severe weather leaves behind more damage in northeast South Dakota.

The storm moved through the region late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Authorities say gusts of 99 miles per hour were confirmed at the Watertown Regional Airport.

Watertown Fire Rescue received several calls in a matter of hours. Crews responded to several downed, active power lines, as well as a large power substation that was damaged by downed trees.

There’s been no reports of serious injuries.

This comes after eastern South Dakota saw a series of storms last week, including one that spawned a confirmed tornado just miles from Watertown. The community is also dealing with high water issues after abnormally high rainfall this summer.
