Flooding in Sisseton, South Dakota on June 13, 2025.

The Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate tribe is receiving federal support for flooding that occurred earlier this summer.

In a post to Truth Social, President Donald Trump said he’s approving over $500,000 to be sent to the tribe following a phone call with Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

The funding is in response to severe weather on the Lake Traverse Reservation from June 12 through the 17 this year. The Federal Emergency Management Agency was on scene in July assessing damages for potential relief.

Rep. Dusty Johnson said he, Sen. Thune and U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds asked President Trump a few days ago for federal relief for the tribe. He thanked the president for the quick response.

The Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate thanked President Trump and Rep. Johnson for the relief via Facebook.
