Health Department Expands COVID Vaccine Phase To People 75 Years Or Older

Vaccine

State health officials say South Dakotans 75 or older can get COVID-19 vaccinations beginning next Monday (Feb. 8).

Health Secretary Kim Malsam-Rysdon says the vaccination period is still open for people classified in earlier phases.

“Anybody that is in the 1A, 1B, 1C populations and anybody over age 80 who has not been vaccinated yet will still be eligible. We really encourage people that had access before but weren’t ready or weren’t able to become vaccinated if there are still interested, they can still be vaccinated.”

Malsam-Rysdon says the age requirement will lower to those 65 and older as more vaccine doses arrive. She says high risk patients and residents in shared housing facilities are also being vaccinated now.

The health department lists people with two or more underlying health conditions and teachers to follow.
