Dakota Midday: Tourette Syndrome

Sanford Health

Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder that causes uncontrollable tics, such as repeated eye blinks, heard and shoulder jerks or unwanted sounds. Signs and symptoms of Tourette Syndrome typically show up between ages two and twelve. As many as one in five children may have a tic disorder. But recognizing Tourette’s can be difficult.

On Friday, April 10, Sanford Health in Sioux Falls  holds a symposium on "Recognition, Diagnosis and Management of Tourette Syndrome and other Tic Disorders." There’s also a pre-symposium event Thursday evening on "Living with Tic Disorders and Success in a School Setting." For details, click here.

Dr. Michael Kruer is associate scientist with Sanford Children’s Health Research Center. He’s also Sanford Pediatric Movement Disorders Program Director. He joined Dakota Midday and discussed the diagnosis and treatment of Tourette Syndrome.
