ALS Awareness Month

Chris Laughery

In The Moment ... May 9, 2019 Show 573 Hour 1

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, more commonly known as ALS, is a devastating progressive neurodegenerative disease that destroys the ability to walk, speak, eat and breathe.

The well-publicized ALS Ice Bucket Challenge raised $115 million during the summer of 2014. It helped spur a huge increase in the reasearch budget for ALS.

May is ALS Awareness Month. Stacey Donovan is the South Dakota Outreach Manager for the Minnesota/North Dakota/South Dakota Chapter of the ALS Foundation.

Education and healthcare reporting on SDPB is supported by Regional Health, helping patients and communities live well.

Lori Walsh is a special correspondent with SDPB and host of the "In the Moment" podcast.
