This interview originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

The nation's organ donation system has taken sharp criticism from Congress. What does the situation look like here at home?

We gather people impacted by organ donation in South Dakota. Together, we dive into the current system and their personal stories of loss and life.

Susan Mau Larson is the chief strategy officer with LifeSource, the organ procurement organization for the Upper Midwest.

Tim Bjork is an organ recipient and had a lifesaving heart transplant in 2006. Because of an organ donation, he was able to see his grandkids graduate high school, get married and even have kids of their own.

Josh Weiland is on the other side of the system. His mother, Susie, passed away in 2019. As an organ donor, her legacy lives on through the seven lives she saved.
