SD Department of Health warns health care practitioners of scam calls

The state Department of Health is warning health care practitioners of another scam.

In this one, scammers impersonate DOH or licensing board officials and falsely claim practitioners are in breach of licensing rules, laws, and regulations.

The DOH urges people not to click on suspicious links or download suspicious attachments and to limit sharing personal information online.

Officials also said legitimate communications from regulatory agencies give health care professionals a legally protected period to respond, so be suspicious of anyone demanding urgency.

Legitimate regulatory agencies will never solicit or demand monetary payments, personal information or passwords. Officials said they also will never discourage seeking legal advice or threaten disciplinary action or license termination over the phone.

For further information or to report fraudulent activity, please contact State Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-300-1986 or https://consumer.sd.gov/
