Million-dollar gift helping Sanford address behavioral health needs

Marsh McLennan Agency is giving Sanford Children’s Hospital a $1 million gift.

The 10-year philanthropic commitment is being used to integrate behavioral health into inpatient pediatric care.

More specifically, the partnership is helping Sanford Children’s Hospital to:

  • Expand the pediatric behavioral health team with additional full-time therapists and social workers.
  • Enhance internship and training programs to empower staff and build a long-term sustainable model for delivering critical whole-person care to local kids.
  • Introduce assessment and follow-up services, ensuring children receive appropriate diagnoses, treatment and long-term care plans.
  • Enhance facilities to create dedicated spaces where kids with behavioral health needs can find comfort, heal and learn skills.

The gift also helps provide the hospital the use of screening tools to assess emotional health of all admitted patients.

Sanford officials say over the life of the gift, it “creates a safer, more supportive environment” by addressing growing behavioral health needs in the area.
