Monument Health to implement visitation limitations over measles concerns

Starting June 25, Monument Health is enacting limited visitation at its Rapid City Hospital Women’s and Children’s Center.

In a Facebook post, officials said the restrictions are to protect families—especially newborns who are not old enough to be vaccinated—from the measles virus.

Visitation limitations include:

  • Only one support person is allowed for expectant mothers.
  • Only two support individuals are allowed for child patients. Support people include parents, legal guardians, family members, or doulas.
  • No new visitors are allowed to switch out after the patient gets admitted.

Two measles cases have been confirmed so far in South Dakota—one Pennington County and one in Meade County.
