The state Department of Social Services is seeking input for its Rural Health Transformation Plan. The public comment period will inform the state’s application to a new federal program.
The federal One Big Beautiful Bill Act created a $50 billion fund called the Rural Health Transformation Program. All states are eligible to apply. A statement from DSS says states could receive a minimum of $100 million a year for five years.
The Governor’s Office will submit South Dakota’s application this fall. Any awarded funds are expected to target rural providers and communities.
Federal guidelines say applications should address issues like improving access to healthcare in rural areas, using new technology for disease management, strengthening regional partnerships and more.
The public input form can be found here.
