Complete the Following:
- Have you ever had to go to a safe place during bad weather? How did it make you feel?
- Draw a compass rose, including the cardinal and intermediate directions symbols.
- Complete the activity introduced in the video. Go on a field trip around your school or home with an adult.
- Collect a leaf (in season) and a bark rubbing from a tree northwest, southwest, northeast, and southeast of your school or home.
- Use the internet and books to figure out the name of each tree.
- Draw a small school or your home in the middle of a large piece of paper.
- Draw a compass rose that shows the cardinal and intermediate directions.
- In each corner, glue the leaf, the bark rubbing, and the tree name found at each location.
- Alternative—Depending on the time of year, it could be difficult to collect leaves and tree rubbings. The students could draw something from the community representing the different directions (E.g., a swing set, park, downtown, lake, hardware store, etc.).
