Rediscovering Norma Deloris Egstrom from Jamestown, North Dakota

Sturgis native David Hersrud brings his years in the music industry and lifelong interest in discovering new music to this episode of Fresh Tracks. David and Larry Rohrer present new jazz, desert blues, a new treatment of a classic 60's song, and a surprise ending with another classic female voice.

Four-time Grammy award-winning instrumental ensemble/collective Snarky Puppy is out with their new album "Empire Central." The group was founded in 2004 by members of the University of North Texas Jazz Studies program. It includes 25 musicians in its regular rotation and currently features 19.

Snarky Puppy's music is a mix of jazz fusion, funk, classic soul, and rock with a dash of Frank Zappa.

Khruangbin collaborates with Malian musician Vieux Farka Toure to release "Ali." The music is a reinterpretation of songs from Vieux Farka Toure's father Ali Farka Toure.

Khruangbin's name refers to Thai word for airplane. It is appropriate considering the band’s blending of world music with classic soul, dub, rock, and psychedelia.

Stevie Nicks releases a cover of "For What It’s Worth."
The original song was written by Stephen Stills for The Buffalo Springfield in 1966. Nicks wanted to interpret it through the eyes of a woman.

We also look back at "Norma Deloris Egstrom from Jamestown, North Dakota." That is the album by Peggy Lee who made “Fever” a hit.

Fever celebrates 50 years since its release this year.

Larry, although retired as Assistant General Manager for SDPB, continues to write, host, and do media production and voice work for SDPB.
